Not sure what size you need? A good rule of thumb in a living room is to go large enough so at least the front legs of your furniture sit on the rug. In a dining room, choose a size that extends 24 inches beyond the table on all sides. Browse all sizes below.
what our clients say about us
Hand-Knotted Rugs from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Turkey
ALRUG has been sourcing authentic hand-knotted rugs directly from weavers since 1952. Every rug in our collection is genuinely hand-knotted, one of a kind, and chosen for the quality of its construction, materials, and design. We do not carry machine-made rugs, hand-tufted rugs, or synthetic pile. Every piece ships free worldwide.
What Hand-Knotted Means
A hand-knotted rug is made by tying individual knots by hand around the vertical foundation threads of a loom. A single weaver working on a standard 8x10 rug ties three to four million individual knots to complete the piece. The process takes months. On finer pieces at higher knot densities, it takes over a year. This is why a genuine hand-knotted rug lasts a century or more, develops character with age, and holds its value in a way that no machine-made or hand-tufted rug can match.
Our Collections
We carry over 51,000 hand-knotted rugs across every major style, origin, and size.

Bokhara Rugs: Classic repeating gul motifs in deep reds and jewel tones. Hand-knotted in Pakistan with a dense upright pile. One of the most recognized patterns in the Oriental rug tradition.
Khal Mohammadi Rugs: Layered deep reds with precise Turkmen gul patterns. Hand-knotted by Turkmen weavers in northern Afghanistan.
Ziegler Rugs: Oversized muted florals on soft ivory and beige grounds. Originally designed in the 19th century for Western interiors, now one of the most sought-after styles in contemporary design.
Oushak Rugs: Spacious floral fields in warm ivory, dusty gold, and faded terracotta. Woven in Turkey. The most versatile style in our collection.
Kilim Rugs: Flat-woven Afghan and Turkish kilims in bold tribal patterns. Lightweight, easy to clean, and suited to high-traffic areas.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a hand-knotted rug last? A well-maintained hand-knotted rug lasts well over a century. Many antique hand-knotted rugs from 100 to 150 years ago are still in daily use today.
What is the difference between hand-knotted and hand-tufted? Hand-knotted rugs have each knot individually tied to the foundation. Hand-tufted rugs are made by pushing wool through a canvas backing with a gun, then gluing a fabric layer over the back. Hand-tufted rugs deteriorate significantly faster and do not hold their value.
