Large Image - Handmade Ferahan Rug
About Ferahan Rugs

Ferahan (or Farahan) is located in the central Iran, in the south of Tehran. Ferahan is known for its fine area rugs and carpets that are sometimes known as Mahal rugs in the West for their usage of Herati motifs (diamond lettice through rose blossoms and leaves). The design is generally all-over with turtle (pair of arabesque) border. Ferahan rugs have distinguished colors, mostly on dark-blue, beige and red ground with darker tones than other natural dyes rugs. Handspun wool is used on cotton foundation; the overall feel is of thin, tight pile. They are considered finest pieces of Chobi variety; the colors are strong yet their mellow tonality creates a visually calming experience for the viewer.
